Some wedding musicians on the Sunshine Coast play live acoustic music, some are DJs, and some can do both, like I do. Have a think about whether you want one type of music or the other, or different styles at different times during your wedding day and night. 

Always ask precisely what’s included in Sunshine Coast wedding music packages, too. For example, can the musician cover the ceremony, canapés, and whole reception, or do they focus on live music only for the ceremony or DJ tracks just for the dance section of a wedding? Do they also offer MC services so everything flows smoothly between moments and music? 

Hot tip: Booking one person to handle both live music and DJ sets keeps things simple and seamless (and usually saves you money, too). 

 2. Can you help us choose songs?

If you’re not sure what to walk down the aisle to, you’re definitely not the only one! A great wedding musician will happily guide you with ceremony song suggestions and help you pick music that fits your vibe, whether that’s romantic and timeless or light-hearted and fun. 

Bonus points if they’re great at reading the room and can switch effortlessly between acoustic tunes and dance-floor favourites! 

3. How much wedding experience do you have? 

Playing weddings is totally different to performing at pubs or parties. Timing, coordination, and flow are everything. This means you need to ask how many weddings they’ve done, and if they’ve worked at your Sunshine Coast venue before.  

An experienced wedding musician knows how to handle timing hiccups, tricky sound setups, and last-minute changes with calm confidence. 

4. Do you bring your own gear?

7. How do you coordinate with other vendors? 

Your musician should work closely with your marriage celebrant, planner, or wedding MC to keep things running smoothly. Ask about their setup time, sound checks, and how they cue songs for key moments, too, like walking down the aisle, speeches, or cake cutting. 

If they offer MC services too (as I do!), that’s a big win. It means one person can keep the mood flowing and make your day feel effortless. 

8. Do you travel? 

If your wedding is out of town or in a beautiful remote spot, check whether your musician is happy to travel and what the costs might be. Some include travel within a certain distance, while others charge per kilometre. 

If it is quiet a hike, maybe even see if there is accommodation available for them – save them having the stress or a long late night / early morning drive home.

This one’s my favourite. It’s a good way to hear how your musician sees themselves. For example, are they laid back? Fun? Detail-oriented? You want someone who not only plays amazing music but also fits your energy and makes you feel comfortable.
