Getting Married in the Warmer Months: Sunshine Coast Celebrants Summer Wedding Tips
There’s something undeniably magical about a Sunshine Coast wedding in the warmer months. The long golden afternoons, lush tropical backdrops, and calm ocean breezes make for a stunning setting to say “I do.” But with that summer beauty comes a few challenges… heat, humidity, and all the little things you don’t think about until you’re standing in the sun in full wedding attire.
Here are some insider tips from every perspective as a celebrant, musician and guest to help you plan a warm-weather wedding that’s as comfortable as it is unforgettable.

Timing Is Everything
If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony, consider the time of day carefully.
- Morning weddings can be fresh and bright (and great for brunch receptions).
- Late afternoon ceremonies are the most popular. Not only for that dreamy golden-hour light but also to avoid the harsh midday sun. (Trust me with this your photographer will be very thankful).
The venue or the photographer and myself, can help you pick the perfect time based on your location and the season’s light patterns.

Hydration Stations
A simple but often forgotten detail: water for your guests.
Set up a beautiful water station with ice, fruit slices, and maybe even a little sprig of mint or cucumber. It looks great in photos and keeps everyone happy and hydrated, especially the grandparents and little ones.
For extra style points, match your drink dispensers and cups to your wedding theme.
If water isn’t for you what about a slushie machine – alcohlic or not! But still have water too!

Dress Smart (and Cool)
Warm-weather weddings are not the time for heavy fabrics or tight fits – think sweat dripping down your back and everyone being able to see it… not very fancy then. That’s the realistic side of living in this beautiful part of the world.
- Brides: opt for light, breathable materials like chiffon, organza, or tulle. Maybe leave the veil at home, this could add extra heat and block the breeze from your face making you a sweaty mess. Instead what about a tiara, a flower crown or even a fascinator to pretty things up.
- Grooms: linen or cotton suits are your best friend or skip the jacket altogether for a relaxed coastal vibe, barefeet and all (beach weddings only for that one). Wear a brimmed hat, they are a great accessory for photos, and they keep the sun off your face. Plus I won’t ask you to take a hat off… sunglasses on the other hand. It also doesn’t hurt to have a spare shirt.
- Bridesmaids and groomsmen: let them choose styles that allow airflow and comfort; mismatched or lighter tones look beautiful in natural light.
Tip: Test fabrics under sunlight – some colours show sweat more than others! Or try what I do and pour water on yourself and see how it reacts and how long the stain lasts 😂

Shade and Comfort
If you’re outdoors, shade is non-negotiable.
Provide clear umbrellas or parasols, fans, or wide-brimmed hats for guests, and consider a marquee or canopy over the seating area. Even a small amount of shade can make a big difference.
For something different also offer cooling towels or misting fans - thoughtful touches your guests will remember.

Flowers and Heat
For stinking hot weather its best to pick flowers that can handle the heat well – Google is your friend or a florist that knows there stuff!
Orchids are resilent and maintain their beauty in the heat. Native Australian flowers from the proteaceae family like banksias, grevilleas and waraths are also going to stay strong.
Succlents could make for cute table decorations or even favours for guest.
Keep them fresh by using store them in water just before the ceremony. Have a vase for afterwards to put them back in water on the bridal table.

Makeup and Hair That Last
Your makeup artist will know the best products for humidity, but you can help by:
- Choosing a primer that controls shine.
- Using waterproof mascara and setting spray.
- Keeping blotting papers handy for touch-ups.
For hair, loose updos or textured waves handle heat better than sleek styles that rely on hairspray.

Musicians Know the Heat Too
As a Sunshine Coast musician, I can confirm instruments and electronics don’t love direct sun! I repeat, instruments and electonics don’t love the direct sun!
If you’re having live music, ask your venue about shaded or covered areas for performers. A simple umbrella or pop-up tent keeps things safe and sounding great.
A few years ago now I was at a very, very hot wedding and had my Ipad in the sun (stupid move, I know) it over heated and wouldn’t turn on – but that’s okay because I always bring paper copies of the script and if I am singing you down the aisle I print out a paper version of the song too just in case – however spotify wont work if your device is over heated. So shade is a must.

Book an Indoor Venue
If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony I undertand this one isn’t very helpful… so skip this one.
No need for a wet weather back up and some of these venues are absolutely breathtaking and come fully air-condition. Some that come to mind are Tiffany’s Maleny and The Prideaux Estate that are local to The Sunshine Coast – gorgeous little chapels that are weatherproof all year long.
A lot of Surf Clubs cater for indoor ceremonies as well, normally in an upstair private, cool room.

Styling for Summer
Bring the season into your design!
Think native florals, tropical greens, and breezy table settings.
Avoid candles or chocolate favours that might melt, and consider adding natural elements like shells, palms, or citrus for a fresh coastal touch.
Light, airy colours consisting of whites, blush, champagne, and sage not only suit the season but also keep things cool and timeless.

Food and Drink Ideas
Keep it fresh and seasonal!
Grazing tables, seafood platters, or gourmet BBQs are perfect for a warm afternoon.
Swap out heavy desserts for fruit tarts, gelato, or mini pavlovas, and serve icy cocktails or spritzes to keep everyone refreshed.

Your Celebrant’s Tip: Keep It Simple
In the heat, less really is more. Shorter ceremonies, easy movement between spaces, and relaxed timing all help the day flow beautifully.
Make sure your celebrant has a shaded spot, a windproof microphone setup, and cold water nearby. We will be forever thankful for it!

A Final Word
Getting married in the warmer months on the Sunshine Coast or in Noosa is pure magic.
From beachside vows to hinterland sunsets. With a little planning (and plenty of water), you can embrace everything the season offers while keeping yourselves and your guests comfortable.
P.S don’t forget to slip, slop slap that sunscreen – I recommend one containing zinc or titanium and to be applied about 30 minutes before the ceremony. Fingers crossed for no oily marks.
