Wedding reception Questions…

Because I am the type of celebrant that can give you three good reasons why I can stick around until late-

What does an MC do?

The MC acts as a host, but I also like to mention I act as the coordinator, make sure everything runs on time, make sure everyone knows where they need to be and why and make sure the party keeps going until the event is finished.

Is an MC and DJ the same job?

In most cases no, but in my case yes. When I am in charge of your music, I am in charge of the timeline as well, knowing when the cake will be cut, when to play that special song and when to make announcements. I will get the crowd ready for your first dance and either play or perform your special song. I always get a run sheet before the day because I love being organised.

Do we really need an MC and DJ/ Live Music?

If you want the night to run on time with no pressure on your guests, then I would highly suggest getting an outsider (like me) to do it all.

What songs do we need for the reception?

Here are the special moment songs I ask for during a reception-

  • Entering the venue with the bridal party
  • Song to be played while cutting the cake
  • First dance song
  • Father daughter dance
  • Exit song for the end of the night

I also ask couples to provide me with at least 10 of their favourite party dance floor songs and I build my DJ sets around the type of music you have supplied.

How does the music during reception work?

After your ceremony I always suggest two-three hours of acoustic music while canapes are being served or during dinner. During the first dance I invite all your family and friends to join you on the dance floor. It’s my job from that moment to keep them on the dance floor and that’s when the party starts!

It is normally the last formality for the night, so the flow works well.

What if the song you are playing clears the dance floor?

The beauty of being a DJ means you can so quickly blend straight back into a crowd pleaser. I always ask couples to have their input with the music and not every song works, but that’s okay, it’s not the end of the world. It’s my job to get the guests back on the D-floor.

There are some songs we really don’t like, will you still play them?

Absolutely not!! I want you both to be happy with me. Let me know before the day and I will be sure to ensure that certain songs or artists are nowhere to be heard.
