Welcome to my blog “Advice for couples on their wedding day” So you’ve been dreaming of a Sunshine Coast elopement with your toes in the sand or planning the biggest wedding celebration Noosa Hinterland has ever seen, now there’s one piece of advice I give to every couple I have the honour of marrying:
No matter your budget, style, theme, or wedding venue—
Take a quiet moment together. You both set the vibe for the day.
Your wedding day will be a whirlwind—full of emotions, beautiful chaos, timelines, suppliers, and all those tiny details you’ve spent months planning. But here’s the truth: what people remember most isn’t the flower arrangements, the seating plan, or the party favours (most of those get left behind anyway). It’s the feeling of the day. And that feeling? It starts with you two.
As a marriage celebrant and wedding musician I’ve seen just about every type of celebration you can imagine—and I’ve picked up some great tips along the way.
1. MAKE CHOICES THAT FEEL GOOD FOR YOU
This is your day. Not Pinterest’s. Not Instagram’s. Yours.
Choose what you love. That might be a quirky wedding ceremony idea, a personal ritual that reflects your heritage, or DIY table centrepieces inspired by your hobbies.
I once officiated a wedding for a couple who adored LEGO. The result? LEGO table decorations, a LEGO cake topper, and a seating chart with custom figurines for each guest. It was personal, playful, and completely them. And guess what? Everyone still talks about it.

2. TAKE A MOMENT (OR THREE) TO BREATHE
Between the buzzing nerves and all the excitement, take a few slow, deep breaths. Soak it all in.
I always suggest using your wedding photo session as your pause moment. It’s one of the only parts of the day where you’re away from the crowd, just the two of you (and your photographer quietly capturing the magic). These quiet, in-between moments often become the most cherished.
The most important thing-make space to breathe-it grounds you in the moment.
3. TRUST YOUR WEDDING VENDORS
You’ve chosen amazing people for a reason—now let them do what they do best.
When couples trust their celebrant, photographer, florist, or wedding MC/DJ, the whole day flows more smoothly. And it means you actually get to enjoy it.
As someone who wears many hats on a wedding day—I can confidently say that letting go and trusting your team makes a world of difference.
At the end of the day, your wedding isn’t a performance. It’s a celebration of your love, your story, and your connection. So be yourselves, lean into the joy, and don’t forget that one precious moment to stop, look at each other, and go—“Wow, we’re doing this.”n
